Travel Hacks in the FI world

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

Recently I started going down the rabbit hole of podcasts.... I can't believe it has taken me THIS LONG to finally delve into the black hole of amazing podcasts.

While listening to Choose FI podcast (found here: https://www.choosefi.com/listen/choose-fi-podcast/ ), I started hearing more about travel hacks and hacks in general.

I had a little experience with miles and points while I was in college and with a hotel chain, but it was at a very simple small level.

My passion outside of work and family is travel. it's my "Splurge" category as I believe experiences are more valuable to me than material things. Even with it being my "splurge, I'm still a pretty frugal person and always try to get the best deals with everything - particularly while traveling.

I have even thought of being a travel agent to share my and monetize my passion and skills, but time was my most limited resource so it will need to stay on my Master To-Do list.

I digress... so while listening to the podcast, I discovered other great podcast episodes, bloggers, travel hackers, etc. I had been lurking on some travel facebook groups for a while but it was still Greek to me until I started listening to these podcasts. I'd like to share the podcasts I have found helpful below:

As I have mentioned before, I go down rabbit holes and deep dives of researching topics when I'm trying to complete a task, that requires making a decision. I have a tendency to get analysis paralysis, and anxiety so researching is one of my coping mechanisms.

Often I'll take notes for myself and then forget everything after I've accomplished what I needed the information for. This blog is a way for me to keep a documented record of some of my notes in one place of all the random facts, tips and opinions, that I have found useful when making a decision.

Below are some of my short-hand notes I've taken to start my journey into optimizing points, miles and travel deals, to allow travel at a significantly discounted rate ie travel "hacking".
